Hesitation Waltz Mini-Course
Learn how to dance to fast waltz music by adapting the dances you already know.
Hesitation Waltz is a way of dancing to fast waltz music that doesn't involve spinning 'til you drop. Instead, you step on only some of the beats, mixing slow and fast steps to make the tempo more manageable.
In this comprehensive online course, you will learn how to adapt the dances you already know in order to comfortably dance to fast waltz music, a surprisingly common form of music in today's world (think Taylor Swift's "Lover" or Ed Sheeran's "Perfect").
Given that this course is based on "the dances you already know," it's a great add-on to the other courses on this site, but it isn't meant to be a standalone course for someone new to dancing.

In this course, you'll learn how to adapt the dances you already know to fast waltz music. Whether you choose to learn to lead or follow, after taking this course, you'll have a good understanding of how to dance to fast waltz music.
In our online classes, everyone gets the best view, instead of having to crane their neck to see what the teacher is doing. In addition, when learning online, you can watch the lessons over and over again (now, and any time in the future), as well as rewinding or slowing down the video if you need more help with a particular step.
Unlike many other sites that offer online classes, where you might only get a quick demonstration of the steps, in the detailed instruction you will receive in this course, you'll actually get a step-by-step breakdown of each variation as well as many specific tips about the finer points of leading and following them. In addition, in developing this course, we thought carefully about how to arrange the variations so that each lesson builds on what you've learned in the previous lessons, so you'll always know exactly what's going on.
No! In addition to teaching the variations in a partnered context for students who are learning with a partner, in each lesson, we virtually dance the steps with you so that even if you're learning solo, you'll have us to dance with.
While for most of our courses, there are no prerequisites, in order to get the most from this Hesitation Waltz course, we recommend that you know at least some of the other dances that we teach at the University of Dance, since we'll be adapting those dances to new music in this course, rather than teaching them from the ground up.
